I would also like to thank the staff members of the Nyeri county Government department of health services for their support when I started my attachment.ABSTRACTDepression is a common problem worldwide, common among the working population as has also been reported in Kenya and its effects have been noted to be very costly for employees and employers. It has been describe d as one of the most debilitating illnesses in the world, projected to be the second most common disease by 2020, though its worldwide prevalence and impact may have been underestimated. Some features of depression are denial and a sense of helplessness, thus no employee would want to be termed depressed. Other symptoms of this disease include fatigue, irritability, inability to make decisions, somatic problems, lack of interest in day‑to‑day activities, and suicidal thoughts.While some workplace stress is normal, excessive stress has negatively impacted on individual's performance.
